This project gave me problems because it forced me to work backwards from how I usually operate. Usually, I prefer to allow myself to create images in my work that I am emotionally or instinctively drawn towards, and then decipher out what I was trying to communicate after the piece has been completed. In this piece, I had to come up with a solid, researched idea that i could morally and emotionally stand behind before I even began the visual aspects of the work, which placed me way out of my comfort zone. However, I did enjoy doing the research once I had decided on my angle, and tracing the gun to create the "mask" of a toy was not too terribly hard, which was a relief since I struggled so hard at the beginning of the assignment conceptually.

This project was extremely difficult to complete for me. The pen tool was ok to use, although I did struggle a bit with the more complex shapes of the outline of the eyes and face. The real problem came with color matching- I could not get the face to match up from the color swatches. I knew that there was another way to edit the color, but I could not figure it out. Because of this, I feel like the quality of the coloration of the face, especially in the mouth and chin area, suffered a lot.
This project was interesting for me because i have never done anything design related for an actual commercial purpose before. I had a very hard time being able to tell if things really looked as nice as I thought they did. Some of the biggest critiques I got was on the text font unity between the poster and postcard (use the same font next time), on the color of the postcard title (the white didn't show up as well once it was printed and it was hard to read), and on the proximity of the text on the back of the postcard to the edges- they would likely get cut off.
I loved making the concept for this project- me being in the cage with the parakeets because I love birds. However, the stitching together the photos for the scene at the beginning was terrible and very difficult. That part of this project took up most of my work time.
This is my favorite project so far. I wanted to present my sense of humor in this piece, and I think I succeeded in that element. I also thought this painting was great because it has a fantastic chicken to human ratio.I really enjoyed messing with the curves, contrast, and color balances with this project. I enjoyed adding the layers of texture as well, but in the printed image, the effect was not as dramatic as i had hoped it would be.
